Environmental monitoring is important in many different applications, 
ranging
from biodiversity and global change to impact assessment in relation to
large construction and infrastructure projects.
Earth Observation
from satellites can be used for enviromental monitoring in relation to:
- Mapping of changes over time in forest cover or other vegetation
types due to human disturbance or climate change
- Mapping impact on the aquatic environments and water quality as a
consequence of industrial activitites such as agriculture or aquaculture
- Invasive species mapping
